Good Morning, I would like to clear up a few issues with our online attestation process. Of course, if you have any further questions please email to email@example.com or call the school. • Why did we switch from a monthly to daily attestation? We switched based on the recommendation by the Schoharie County Department of Health in response to the alarming growth of COVID-19 cases in the county. • Can we do the attestation the night before? The answer is no as we want to make sure you (staff member) or your child’s temperature is below 100° in the morning prior to coming to school. The system will open at 5:00 AM and close at the end of the school day allowing anyone coming into the school to use the same system. • I have no technology; how do I do this? Please call the school and let the nurse’s office know and we will send home a paper copy which you will fill out daily and your child can hand it in when they come through the entrance doors in the morning. • I do not fit into the categories listed? We have updated the location as well as the groups. If you feel there should be any other change please let us know. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you. Holiday Message, December 2020 Pandora’s Box and Hope With 2020 ending I wanted to share some hope. I love to read and listen to books and one of my favorites is “The Last Lecture” written by Randy Pausch and Jeffery Zaslow where Randy Pausch talks about achieving his childhood dreams and what he learned of life. In one chapter he references Pandora’s Box, the Greek Myth where a person is put in charge of a magical box but given strict instructions not to open it. We all know the ending: curiosity wins out, the box is opened, and all forms of evil are released into the world. What many may not know or remember, including myself, is that at the bottom of the box was hope. This is how I feel about the last year in our school, our community, our lives, and the world as a whole. During this pandemic we have dealt with many “evils” such as halting in-person school, classrooms and classes split for the safety of staff and students, shutting down of our economy, budget cuts to education, COVID related expenses burdening every school and family, and so many more. These are all real but I choose not to let these events shape my thoughts for the future. I choose to look at the bottom of Pandora’s Box. I choose hope. Hope is all around us if we choose to look. Hope is over 100 volunteers rushing to our school to help extinguish the fire in our bus garage. Hope is the people and businesses that have donated food and gifts to so many of our families in need during the holidays. Hope is the Joshua Project that provided thousands of pounds of food to families in our community during the entire shutdown. Hope is the students, staff, families, board members, and community of the Gilboa-Conesville Central School District that have worked and continue to work tirelessly to keep our doors open for as much in- school instruction as possible. Hope is saying “The sun always shines in Gilboa” and knowing every day we can find that ray of sunshine in some form. We are not out of this crisis and vigilance is still needed, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to support our students. I wish everyone a healthy and safe holiday season, a New Year filled with happiness, and especially filled with hope. Sincerely, Jack Etter Superintendent Gilboa Conesville Central School District

The NYSPHSAA officially canceled the 2021 winter state championships on Friday, Dec. 11, and postponed all high-risk sports until further notice unless they are given the green light by state health officials that it would be safe to resume activities. Sports considered “high risk” by the Association are: basketball, boys lacrosse, competitive cheerleading, football, ice hockey, volleyball, and wrestling. If there is a postseason for those sports, decisions on a championship will be determined at the section level.

Important updates from the Gilboa-Conesville Central School: Health, Sports, Regents and 3-8 Testing Good Afternoon: With so much information as well as misinformation being circulated, I wanted to give everyone an update on some school-related items. Of course, the one caveat is that all updates are subject to change at any point. If this happens, we will share those updates with you as soon as possible. First, I have been asked about our plans for closure between the Thanksgiving and winter breaks. As of Thursday November 19th, we are not planning to close during this period. We will continue to follow the local COVID infection rates and the directives from the Schoharie County Department of Health, State Ed and the Governor’s Office. The health, safety, and welfare of our students, staff and our community remain our priority. If closure information should change we will notify all stakeholders immediately. We have received other questions about travel during the holiday seasons. What happens if you travel out of state? What happens if people from out of state visit you? The travel document posted with this update is from the Schoharie County Department of Health and answers most of these questions. Always check the Department of Health website for up-to-date information Schoharie County Department of Health. For winter sports this was just released. “Latham, NY – The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has announced the start date for high risk winter sports (basketball, competitive cheer, ice hockey and wrestling) will be moved to January 4, 2021.” Finally, our health office at school has been very busy screening for COVID-19 during the start of cold and flu season. Families and teachers understandably have many questions for the school nurse in regards to contract tracing, quarantining, and when it is safe to return to school. Our health & safety guidelines are updated almost daily. You can call our school health office or consult with your county Department of Health for the latest updates. Please note that some of our health rules are not new; if your child is sick they must stay home. In addition, if you or your child show any of the symptoms of COVID-19 get tested. The signs are: • Fever or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • Fatigue • Muscle or body aches • Headache • New loss of taste or smell • Sore throat • Congestion or runny nose • Nausea or vomiting • Diarrhea In school we are cleaning and following the social distance and mask rules. We are in a county that has mandated masks at all times in school with the exception of lunch and mask breaks. This order is posted in the main office and online with the other health documents. As you can imagine, additional cleaning and enforcing mask and social distance requirements require constant vigilance by staff as well as students. Our custodial and transportation department have added deep and constant cleaning to their daily routines. Food service has transitioned into our version of Uber Eats as most meals are now delivered. We have limited visitors to our buildings as well as moving parent teacher conferences and special education meetings online. All of our teaching, classroom support personnel, and office staff have adapted well. The health office has become a hub as we continue to support the school through this pandemic. To that end, we are hiring a second staff member to the health office to assist in the added work and responsibilities. We have all heard that NYC Public Schools are now fully remote. We have a few local schools that have gone remote and one that we know of that is planning to go remote for a few days after Thanksgiving. What does this mean for us? It means that we will continue to watch the numbers, coordinate with the Schoharie County Department of Health, follow any new executive order that might come out of the Governor’s office and then rely on our Board of Education and school administration to make and share any decisions. Regents exams in January have been canceled. To date, the NYS 3-8 tests are still scheduled as are the June Regents exams. Both of these are subject to change. As always, we have our health email address where you can send any questions, comments or concerns you may have. That email is email@example.com . Stay safe, stay well. Jack Etter Superintendent Gilboa-Conesville Central School

Area All State is a festival where the best students from every zone get together and practice a repertoire of music to perform at a concert the following day. This typically is held at SUNY Oneonta. There is a difficult selection process in order to participate in this event. Unfortunately, this year the event was canceled, but students were still selected to represent their schools. This year Ethan Halat and Ava Gockel were selected for the band, Dawson Ford, Ethan Hallock, and Gage Gockel were selected for the mixed chorus, and Samantha Chapman was selected for the treble chorus. Congratulations!
Good Afternoon, We wanted to make sure we share how we are handling days off during hybrid learning. Tomorrow is Veterans Day, the first holiday we have encountered since beginning this new educational model. Although a holiday and a day off from school, Veterans Day will be counted as part of the in-person/remote learning rotating schedule. Therefore, on Thursday, November 12th and Friday, November 13th, grades 8, 11 and 12 will report to school for in-person learning. Grades 7, 9 and 10 will attend classes remotely. Moving forward, all days off (including holidays, vacation days, Superintendent’s Conference Days and snow days) will be treated as if they were regular school days for the purpose of the hybrid schedule. We also want to thank all of our Veterans for your service to our country. Happy Veteran's Day!!!

How do I drop off my child at school? If you drive your child to school you must park in the student parking lot and come through the tunnel with your child. All students entering the building on time will come in through the main gym entrance as this is where they will enter and pick up their breakfast. If your child is late they will enter through the main doors.
Please note: Due to Covid-19 restrictions students with driving privileges will not be allowed to leave the building and return during the school day. The only exception is if a junior or senior has driving permission and a study hall 9th period they may leave then.

Good Afternoon, We are all excited to see our students return to the school building tomorrow, October 13th. There are now a number of new procedures in place that were developed to help our students and staff remain safe. Students schedule updates • Elementary School (Pre-K – 6) will take place in person 5 days a week. • The High School (7-12) will be in divided into two groups. Group 1 is 7th, 9th & 10th grades and Group 2 is 8th, 11th & 12th grades. Each group will come into school for 2 days and the following 2 school days will be remote instruction. This week, Group 1 attends school in-person Tuesday and Wednesday and will have remote instruction on Thursday and Friday. Group 2 will have remote instruction Tuesday and Wednesday, attend school in-person Thursday and Friday, and will again have remote instruction the following Monday and Tuesday. The pattern continues like this. • Our kindergarten class will be in the cafeteria and our 4th grade class will be in the auditorium. • In most cases, specials (i.e., art, music, library) will take place in the classroom. PE will be held in the gym or outside, weather permitting. Masks & Social Distancing & Health Form • Masks must be worn at all times with the only exception being teacher-supervised mask breaks and during lunch. • Social distancing (remaining at least 6’ apart) is expected to be maintained at all times. • All families are required to have turned in a health attestation form prior to Tuesday. If you have not turned this in yet please send it with your child on Tuesday. Any student without a completed form will be subject to a temperature check at the door. • When students get off the bus and come in through the gym doors in the morning, they will pick up a “Grab & Go” breakfast to take to their classrooms. Additional updates • Lunches will be brought to students and they will eat lunch in their classrooms. • Students who are driven to school are asked to be dropped off in the student parking lot. The student will then walk through the tunnel to the gym doors where they will be let in. Young students may be escorted to the door. • Students who are late will have to come in through the main entrance of the school. • As of right now, we have no afterschool sports or afterschool activities such as CROP, Drama Productions or intermural sports. • Even though we have no on-site bus garage, our vehicles will be maintained and our bus routes will run as planned. Please call the main office if you have any questions. • Bus passes will only be allowed in an emergency. Our bus routes are designed to meet current health regulations. The school is following the health and safety guidelines outlined by your County Health Commissioner. We ask that all students, families, staff and community members respect these new rules and understand that they are necessary for school to remain open. As we have more updates or questions come in, we will keep you informed. You may always call the main office or email questions to firstname.lastname@example.org ,which is checked daily. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to your children, our students, and to our school community. Sincerely, Jack Etter, Superintendent Tom Cervola, Principal

Welcome back 2020 GCCS students. One week from today we will be welcoming back our Pre-K through 6 students full time as well as our 7 through 12 students in a hybrid model. Just as a reminder, Tuesday, October 13th, 2020, will be our first day of in-person classes. Students in prekindergarten through sixth grade will be attending in-person classes every day. Middle and high school students will attend in-person classes two days in a row, remote classes over the next two days, then again attend in-person classes for the next two days. The schedule will continue in this manner. There will only be three grades from Middle and High School attending in-person classes each day. Students in grades 7, 9, and 10 will report to school for in person classes on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, and Wednesday, October 14, 2020, and will log in to Schoology remotely on Thursday, October 15, 2020, and Friday October 16, 2020. Students in grades 8, 11, and 12 will log in to Schoology remotely on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, and Wednesday, October 14, 2020, and will report to school for in-person classes on Thursday, October 15, 2020, and Friday October 16, 2020. All Gilboa-Conesville Central School staff from transportation, custodial, cafeteria, teaching and support staff as well as all administrative staff have been working tirelessly to make our school a safe learning environment. Currently we are working under the Schoharie County Department of Health guidelines who work in conjunction with NYS Department of Health and the CDC. A student health attestation form will be posted later today and is required to be filled out and turned in prior to or when your child returns to school. This form is also being filled out by all faculty and staff. On this form you will attest to the health of your child which will include a daily temperature check as well as answers to CDC guideline questions. Although the form is only required to be turned in monthly you are agreeing to take your child(ren)s temperature daily. We will be transitioning to a daily online COVID health questionnaire within the first six weeks of school. If your child has a fever of over 100° or shows any of the COVID symptoms listed on the attestation form please keep them home and notify our school nurse Mrs. Cox at 607-588-7541 option 3. If your child should arrive without an attestation form their temperature will be taken and we will call home for additional information. Please keep in mind that with our transportation restrictions children will be required to be picked up at one location and dropped off at one location. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions: Breakfast and lunch will be served in the classrooms for all grades. Masks must be worn at all times on the bus and social distancing will be in place. Family members may sit together on the bus. Students will get mask breaks during the day and will be permitted to remove them during lunch. Restrooms will be monitored and sanitized as necessary. Procedures will be shared when students return. Remote learning will only be available to families with medical accommodations which will require documentation and verification. We will continue to disseminate information as it becomes available. Remember if you have any questions to email email@example.com. We will do our best to address your concerns in a timely fashion. We look forward to seeing all of our students next week! Jack Etter Superintendent

A lockdown describes security measures taken to protect against potential intruders that may threaten the safety of our students, faculty and staff. School administrators, staff, students, and parents, all have roles and responsibilities to support and implement the lockdown drill protocol to help prevent the risk of harm to anyone in the building should a violent or serious incident occur. Welcome back to the GCCS 2020-21 school year. What a difference a year can make! I don’t have to recap all that has happened since last September but I wish to share some of the highlights. We completed our building project, which gave us a beautiful new and modern library as well as upgrades to security, electrical infrastructure, heating and cooling, and a makeover of our business and main office. The CSI (NYSED’s Comprehensive Support & Improvement) process guided our many initiatives including curriculum mapping, SEL (Social-Emotional Learning), and enhanced professional development for staff. We begin the 2020-21 school-year with a new ELA curriculum that will improve literacy learning for all students. Additionally, we have been able to improve some of the technology inequities, and although not 100%, we have closed the gap considerably with devices, MiFi units, and upgrades to our technology infrastructure. The school staff has never worked harder to get ready for a new school year. Our buildings and grounds personnel are ensuring that the district is ready for the return of staff, and in a few weeks, the return of students. The cafeteria has started prepping meals to be delivered to families as well as getting ready to serve students when they return. Transportation has implemented new cleaning routines and has altered bus routes to meet the Department of Health and State Ed. guidelines for health and safety. Teachers and LTAs have attended many trainings to prepare for remote and hybrid formats and are creating online learning classrooms in Schoology. The principal’s office, guidance office, main office, nurse’s office, and business office staff have updated protocols to streamline processes and enhance communication with families. Our goal is much the same as yours. We want our students back in school and we want our students and staff to be safe and to stay healthy. Upon returning to school this year, all staff are required to sign attestation forms about their physical health and possible exposure to COVID-19. When students return to the building, families will also be required to complete a health attestation for their children. Social distancing and mask protocols are also in place anywhere on school property. There will be more specifics provided to families as we get closer to students retuning to the school building. Remember, remote learning starts on September 9th, 2020. I want to say thank you to our community and to our families and students. This has not been an easy time and we anticipate some obstacles ahead. I ask that you continue to be patient, continue to communicate with us, and continue to support your children. I am proud of how this community comes together in times of struggle. Remember, “The sun always shines in Gilboa.” We cannot wait to see you all. Sincerely, Jack Etter Superintendent Gilboa-Conesville Central School
Remote learning will begin on September 9, 2020. The cafeteria will be providing breakfast and lunch via delivery on Wednesdays for the next 5 weeks. If you are interested in receiving food, please call the school.

Here is the posting that the governor has asked for . Gilboa-Conesville Central School COVID-19 Testing In the event that a large-scale testing will need to be conducted at the school, the district administration will work with the NY State Department of Health and our local Schoharie County Health Department. NYS Department of Health serves as the mandatory baseline of health and safety protocols for school districts to follow. Testing is part of a continuum of mitigation efforts that includes mandatory daily screening, testing for symptomatic individuals or exposures and contract tracing in the event of a positive case. If anyone has or is suspected of having COVID-19 symptoms, they will be referred to their primary care physician, closest urgent care center or the Schoharie County Department of Health to be directed to a testing site. • Schoharie County Health Department: 518-295-8365 Screening All visitors: All visitors will be required to complete a five-question survey prior to entering any district building, with the following questions: • Have you had COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days? These symptoms include: sore throat, cough, chills, body aches for unknown reasons, shortness of breath for unknown reasons, loss of smell, loss of taste, or fever at or greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. • Have you had a positive diagnostic COVID-19 test in the past 14 days? • Have you had close contact with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case in the past 14 days? • Have you been under quarantine and not cleared to return to work? • Have you traveled to a state covered by the COVID 19 Travel Advisory in the last 14 days? Staff: All staff will be required to fill out a self-screening survey prior to the school year stating that every day they come to work they have taken their temperature and it is below 100, they have not taken a fever reducing medicine, and have not been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms. Students: All students families will be required to fill out a self-screening survey prior to the school year stating that every day the student comes to work the parent has taken the students temperature and it is below 100, they have not taken a fever reducing medicine, and have not been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms. All: If during a school day, anyone has a temperature reading above 100° F, or if the student or staff member reports experiencing other COVID-19 related symptoms, the student or staff member will be quarantined or isolated in the building’s dedicated “isolation” rooms, and the parents/guardians will be notified if a student. The student will wait in the isolation room until his or her/parents arrive. The staff member will leave the building. Our building has designated three isolation rooms, apart from the nursing suite that will be monitored by personnel if a student or staff member needs to be placed in isolation. Face masks and other PPE must be worn at all times in the isolation room. Nurses, and all other personnel in contact with the person, will be protected with masks, eye protection, face shields, gowns, gloves and shoe covers. If, during the course of a school day, students and/or staff develop any symptoms listed they must notify the following person(s): Staff: Staff who develop symptoms should contact our school nurse or the District Office. Gilboa-Conesville Central School Gilboa-Conesville Central School Alissa Cox School Nurse Jack Etter, Superintendent Phone: (607) 588-7541 Phone: (607) 588-7541 Students: Students who develop symptoms should contact their school nurse: Gilboa-Conesville Central School Alissa Cox School Nurse Phone: (607) 588-7541 Contact Tracing: The district will notify the state and local health department immediately upon being informed of any positive COVID-19 diagnostic test result by an individual within school facilities or on school grounds, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the district. To assist the local health department with tracing the transmission of COVID-19, the district has developed and maintained a plan to trace all contacts of exposed individuals in accordance with protocols, training, and tools provided through the New York State Contact Tracing Program. Districts may assist with contact tracing by: • Keeping accurate attendance records of students and staff members • Ensuring student schedules are up to date • Keeping a log of any visitor which includes date and time, and where in the school they visited • Assisting the local health departments in tracing all contacts of the individual in accordance with the protocol, training, and tools provided through the NYS Contact Tracing Program. • Confidentiality must be maintained as required by federal and state laws and regulations. School staff should not try to determine who is to be excluded from school based on contact without guidance and direction from the local health department. Remote Learning Remote learning students will be scheduled to have instruction in an online environment. In the Secondary School (grades 7-12) in a remote setting, students will run on a regular secondary school schedule. When online, we will make some classes a few minutes less so students and teachers can transition to the next online class. In the elementary (grades pre-k – 6) students will start the day online with their teacher and have built in breaks that are more age appropriate. Positive action will be used weekly (our social emotional training) and teachers, service providers, and LTA’s will be in contact with all students that have these services to make sure students are getting their required services.
Good Afternoon. There have been a number of questions that have to do with protocols involving COVID-19. Next Wednesday, the 26th of August, the Schoharie County School Nurses will be meeting with the Schoharie County Department of Health and we will pass on what we learn.
Thank you to all the staff, students, families, and community members who participated in our 4 meetings to discuss our opening and share additional information. We will continue to provide updates and answers to questions as they become available.

We will then schedule our community meetings that will allow parents and community members to ask question, share ideas, and express concerns. One meeting will happen this week for sure and the balance will need to be completed by next Friday. In addition, a meeting with all staff will be held for the same purpose. Please share this post and we will put out a robo call as well. Thank you.
