GCR Fall Sports Update: 11/2/25

Posted Date: 11/02/25 (9:00 AM)

The GCR boys varsity soccer team headed to Sidney on Saturday to take on Edmeston in the section 4 class D championship game. GCR would strike first on a penalty kick by Roni Grieco late in the first half to give our boys a 1-0 lead. GCR would go into halftime leading 1-0.
The second half Edmeston would increase their offensive pressure and find the back of the net with 22 minutes left to tie the score 1-1. Edmeston would keep the offensive pressure and would score again with 11 minutes remaining and take a 2-1 lead. Our GCR boys would not go away. With 4 minutes left Chris Cox would score off an assist from Roni to tie it up 2-2.
The last 3 minutes of regulation, would see both teams with opportunities to win but neither could find the net. This game would go into over time.
Both 15 minute overtime periods saw both teams have good looks at goal to win the game but neither team could cash in. The score would remain 2-2 and both teams would be named Section 4 Champions!
Edmeston would go on to win the penalty kick shootout and qualify for a trip to the state tournament.
Coach Ken and Coach AJ want to thank all the parents and fans for their support during what was an incredible season for our boys. We finished up the season with a 16-0-3 record, a Delaware league title and a section 4 championship! The boys have a lot to be proud of. Congratulations to our boys!
