GCCS Good News: First Grade Pumpkin Experiment 🎃🧪🧬

Posted Date: 10/21/26 (04:20 PM)

The Pumpkin Jack Life Cycle Experiment offers first-grade students an engaging hands-on experience to learn about the pumpkin life cycle. By observing a small pie pumpkin decomposing inside a sealed clear jar, students can witness nature's recycling process at work. Each week, students watch as the pumpkin gradually breaks down, enriching the soil within the jar. This enriched soil then becomes the perfect environment for new pumpkin seedlings to sprout. Through this experiment, students gain a deeper understanding of decomposition, nutrient cycling, and plant growth. Observing these changes every Wednesday not only fosters curiosity but also instills an appreciation for natural processes and the interconnectedness of ecosystems.
