Erin's Law

New York State passed Erin’s Law in August 2019. This law states that all schools must teach developmentally appropriate child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention classes to all students in grades K - 8. At GCCS these lessons will be taught by our School Counselors with the Teacher present. Information about this law and the requirements that the schools have to fulfill can be found at http://www.nysed.gov/curriculum-instruction/erins-law. At this site, resources for schools and parents are available. This site also provides the benchmarks that schools must follow to fulfill the requirements of the law.

Topics that will be covered include but are not limited to:
● Comfortable, uncomfortable, and confusing touches
● Healthy and unhealthy relationships
● Secrets
● Telling a trusted adult
● Personal boundaries
● Internet safety
● Abuse is never the child’s fault
